How to tame a dry, frizzy beard

How to tame a dry, frizzy beard

If you’re a bearded man we’re sure you take pride in your appearance - you'd be the envy of every bloke around with a well-maintained and styled beard. However, because facial hair tends to be coarser than the hair on our head it’s prone to curling upwards; and without proper care, your beard will quickly grow frizzy and disorderly. While this is a style in itself that some men like to sport, if you’re going for more of a sleek, polished look then we’ve got a few tips to help you get there.

 1. Use Pure Marine Collagen

Pure Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen is an all natural odorless collagen that supports hair growth, density and texture.  Not only does it provide your hair with much needed hydration, it will also hydrate the skin beneath the beard. It's really a must have for all beardsmen.

2. Use a quality beard conditioner

A quality beard conditioner will help to keep a frizzy beard in check. Don't (and we repeat don't) use normal hair conditioner on your beard.  Beard Conditioners are made with beards in mind and work to soften the hair, encourage growth, and give your beard hair the shine of your dreams.

A specially designed beard conditioner will nourish the skin beneath your beard while also preventing dandruff. BEARDED's Beard Conditioner is a clean, natural, and non-toxic product that hydrates and conditions beard hair. A subtle scent providing notes of leather, tobacco, and amber, you will also get hints of musk, spices, patchouli, and sandalwood. To begin, we recommend using a conditioner two to three times each week.

For best results, use with the BEARDED. Beard Wash.

3. Trim regularly

One of the best ways to manage a frizzy beard is to give it a trim using a quality pair of barber grade scissors. Regular trimming will rid your beard of any dry, brittle ends which grow in all directions.  Start by combing your beard with a beard comb, then use beard scissors to trim pesky long hairs and split ends.

Tip:  It’s best to not trim horizontally to the ground. Instead, create a natural and finished effect by following the curve of your face.

If you invest in a sharp set of beard scissors that will cut your hair rather than damage it you can easily accomplish that professional shape and trim at home. Beardbrand's beard trimming scissors are constructed from Japanese-manufactured 4034 stainless steel and have a hardness rating of 55-56. The quality level is similar to that of professional hair cutting scissors so you'll be left with a smooth and polished look.

4. Apply a quality beard beard balm

This is probably the most important step, as a quality beard balm will act as a "leave in" conditioner - helping to hydrate and soften your beard.  The beard products you use play a major role in maintaining a healthy-looking beard and managing frizz. A beard balm will condition your beard hair while also aiding in its management and styling.

When looking for a quality beard balm, opt for all natural products that contain a rich source of essential oils, fatty acids, and vitamins.

BEARDED. Beard Balms include natural ingredients such as Argan Oil, Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Mango Butter, and Beeswax.  These ingredients are excellent for restoring moisture and sheen to dry and frizzy beards as they seal in hydration for the skin underneath your beard and give you the appearance of a thicker beard all while softening it.

Simply rub a small amount of beard balm into your palms and smooth through your beard from the base to the tip. Ensure the balm is spread through your beard by using a quality beard brush and you’re good to go.

Some parting words of wisdom:

Always brush in downward strokes towards the ground. This will help to tame the beard hairs to grow in the right direction.

And try to keep those mitts off your beard. While it's temping (near impossible) to avoid stroking your beard, each time you do you're stroking out the hydrating goodness of the products you've just put in.  So try to keep the stroke to a minimum.
